Whenever I'm in a position of leadership (parent, teacher, camp counselor, LFFL commissioner) I _always_ separate myself from the tough situations. I separate my professional self, from my emotions and personal issues to deal with the problem. This keeps me level headed. If I get emotional, I'm pretty much worthless.

I sometimes envy those that do get emotional when dealing with a student effectively. But whenever I try to "lower the boom", the results usually are unsatisfactory.

Also, later on:

3: If the decision ends up being correct, give the credit to the team, including those who dissented. It's good for the soul.

4: Take everyone out for ice cream (no matter what happened) This is also good for the soul.

Well Scott... I'm frankly disappointed with your twitter output so far. It's hard going for more than a couple hours without knowing what's going on with you. Then you hardly say anything about quantum physics or music.... I mean, what the heck?

So I already shared these thoughts with Kevin Bacon I'm afraid, so I doubt he'll be coming by anytime soon....

I visited the beautiful state of Alaska in August (pre-Palin unfortunately). And between taking in breathtaking sights, I talked to some people in Alaska about their views on the political scandals that seem to pop up weekly. All I got was disgust and embarrassment - and based on that I'm shocked that Ted Stevens is actually running, much less in the running.

My thoughts of running for CA office died with the passing of Prop 8, it sickens me. So no worries, you won't need to attend any of my rallies.

Now GMLIV, that's a candidate I could get behind...

My friend gml4 is right when he says that McCain didn't have a chance while in the party of Bush 43. Totally agree.

I think it could have been much closer, however. And I don't think McCain needed to "attack" in order to energize the base...that's what he brought in Palin to do. If she had launched some informed rhetoric against Obama/Biden, with her crowds and appeal...much much closer. She proved herself incapable of that, IMHO.

When I chose a candidate to back, I put all my weight on the strength of their ideas, and just about none on the rhetoric. I'll never attend a political rally unless a relative or close friend needs me. I understand the need for them (less and less, though, in the 21st century), but they're not how you're going to win my vote.

Not for nothing, fair readers, but GML4 ( http://linkert.name/blog ) is a well-spoken lefty and one of Minnesota's finest "Fantasy Politicians".
